Swimming provides good aerobic exercise to keep your lungs and heart in good shape. To achieve this, however, you need to have the right pool depth. Lap pools are particularly ideal for those who want to become pro swimmers, and the design works best if your pool length is greater than the depth.
For Water-Based Sports: 3.5 to 4 Feet
If you love to play water-based sports, having a swimming pool design with the right depth is critical. Team sports such as basketball and volleyball require a full range of motion when played in the water. As such, you need to even out both ends of your pool so that no team gets an unfair advantage.
For Relaxation and Chilling: 3.5 to 4 Feet
There will be moments when you just want to relax or wade in the pool with family or friends after a long day. For this, you may want to consider keeping your water at least waist-high.
